Creating Tablescapes

Hello all!  I am soooo ready to move on to Christmas so this will be the last of my autumn decorating...a few quick and easy autumn tablescapes.

I started out nice and simple with a tablecloth decorated in all the colors of autumn...toasty brown, leaf green, burnt orange and yellow.  I have a lot of tablecloths, none of which I really use, but I thought this one looked so nice paired with my favorite rustic dishes and a little pumpkin.

Wondering what else I should add, I got out some squash...that I like to pretend are pumpkins...a few little corncobs and an ochre crackle-finished bowl.  They all have a nice harvesty feel and are perfect for the season.

Still wanting to add to my little tablescape...I remembered this little stoneware casserole dish.  It is such a nice warm color and the cover has a pretty embossed pattern.  I love texture.

And doesn't the creamy white of the pumpkins look nice against the deep brown of the dish?

Feeling like it was time to switch it up, I got out a two-tiered stand.  For some reason I feel like these stands have a name, but I'm at a loss as to what it would be.  Anyone?  Anyone?  I also added some filler that looks like little miniature pumpkins.  So cute!

Time to go to the spooky side, so...I got my little marmalade jars...yet again, a few ravens and a tall birdcage.  Oh, and don't forgot the vines.

And since Halloween is just around the corner...cue the spooky laugh....
buuuwwaaaaahhaaaa...
let's end on a creepy note.

Okay, is everyone ready for Halloween to be over?!  I am super excited to get ready for Christmas, it's my favorite time of the year.  I already have a few crafty ideas whirling around in my head and I'm ready to go.

This week I'm linkin' up to Feathered Nest Friday at French Country Cottage, Vintage Inspiration Friday at Common Ground, Show and Tell Friday at My Romantic Home and Tablescape Thursday at Between Naps on the Porch.

Best wishes for a wonderful weekend and Happy Halloween!

Me, Myself and I

Hi everyone!  Hope you are having a good week.

A few weeks ago, my lovely friend Rachel, from French Farmhouse 425, tagged me and I have finally gotten around to answering her questions.  Here is what she asked and what I answered...

Where do you currently live?  I live in Minnesota, just outside of Minneapolis.  I would, however, love to live somewhere warmer.  As I write this, it is cold, rainy and the wind is howling at about forty miles an hour outside my door.

Are you living in your dream home?  Or are you dreaming of the home you will live in someday?  I definitely am not living in my dream home.  For me, I don't really think there is such a thing...I just like change too much.   I enjoy the process of designing and building a home, so I could just keep moving over and over.

Where do you draw most of your inspiration from for your home decor?  Well, I have to admit that I have a bit of a magazine addiction, so most of it comes from all the different things I read.  I also enjoy looking at houses during the some of the local home shows.

If you could change something about yourself what would you change?  I would probably say that I wish I could be more outgoing...I'm kind of a homebody.

What is your biggest accomplishment?  Getting through the day...lol.  No, really it's my two wonderful children.  I am so proud of them. ♥

What do you love most about your family?  How close we all are.  I see my parents a few times a week and I enjoy going out to lunch with my sister and visiting with her...she is truly my best friend...and our husbands enjoy each other's company too.  Everyone dotes on my children.  We all get along so well.

What do you think your family loves the most about you?  This is hard to answer.  It is probably different for each person.  Oh...one thing I think they would say about me is that I would always be there for them, no matter what, through good times and bad.

Well, that's it...I hope you enjoyed learning a little bit about me, myself and I.  I also want to say thank you to Courtney at French Country Cottage for giving me the One Lovely Blog Award too...it always feels nice to be noticed.

Now, I know that when someone tags you or gives you a blog award you are supposed to pass it along, but I'm not going to do that, instead I'm just going to tell you about two sweet people that you may want to visit.  The first is Jacqueline at So Cute It Hurts and the second is Valerie at Chateau a La Mode.  I love visiting both of their blogs and think that you might too.

Best wishes for a wonderful week. ♥

Vintage Shutters

Hello everyone!  Hope you had a good week.

I wanted to put up a quick post before the weekend.  I thought I would show you a pair of beautiful, deep green vintage shutters that I own and a few different ways to showcase them.  I've had these beauties for awhile, and I think they make such a nice backdrop for a variety of settings, both indoors and out.  I generally use them outside, placing them behind my big flower urns or behind a pedestal at the front door.

First up, a photo for fall...a nice and simple setting complete with a magnolia wreath and plump pumpkin.

Next, I decided to pair one of the shutters with a botanical calender and a slipcovered linen chair for a pretty, yet earthy feel.

A rosy wreath with some old photos...I love wreaths as picture frames.

A backdrop to some creamy roses.

And lastly, right outside my front door.

I love using architectural elements like shutters, ladders and corbels for decorating.  Because they are usually so large, they seem to add some nice contrast and scale.

I just wanted to thank you for all of your well wishes after my last post.  I am pleased to report that I feel much better and can breathe again...yay!  Hope you have a nice weekend.

I'm linking up this weekend to Feathered Nest Friday at French Country Cottage, Show and Tell Friday at My Romantic Home,  Vintage Inspiration Friday at Common Ground and Saturday Nite Special at Funky Junk Interiors.

I'm Thinking...

I'm thinking...
  • I wish my cold would go away so I could breathe again and not have piles of Kleenex laying all over the couch.
  • I wish I wasn't sooo tired.  I generally say this everyday, but I feel extra sleepy today.
  • I sure say "I wish" a lot.
  • Tomorrow I will not allow myself to eat a pumpkin donut hole or a peanut butter Twix bar or anything of that nature...FOR SURE!
  • Okay, you might not want to read this one, but here it is...Is Halloween over yet?  Let's decorate for Christmas.
  • I'm glad the kids are at church so that I can enjoy the peace and quiet...oops did I just say that?
  • Why do I live in Minnesota?  Winter hasn't even begun, I'm already cold and my winter skin has returned.
  • Tonight I think I'll put on the fireplace, snuggle under the covers, eat popcorn and finally watch "Valentine's Day."
  • You are all so sweet.  Thank you to everyone who follows me, especially since my big Google follow button post.  I love reading all of your comments and visiting you at your blogs too ♥.

Have a Look Around

Hi everyone!  So happy that you're here today.  I thought that you might want to come in and have a look around.  I haven't really shown much of my house, but I'm hoping to change that.  I figure this whole blog thing will put some pressure on me to get things the way I want them around here...let's hope.  I thought I would start with my bedroom.

I've been wanting to post it for awhile...you may remember me saying something about this but, frankly, the room was feeling a little off and I had to make a few adjustments first.  Well, I finally got it to where I want it...for the time being anyway...lol.

When I was taking my photos Tucker, my cat, had to come in to be my helper.  Here he's looking at a bird or something, but other than that he spent a lot of time posing on the bed, rolling around and looking cute and walking through pictures...always pleasant.

The armoire and the dresser are European antiques.  I sure love them...they're rustic with dents and dings here and there and when you have kids...well I'm sure you know where I'm going with that.

All of the bedrooms in our house have metal beds.  I like to decorate this way because then if you ever want to change out a dresser or other furniture the bed always matches.  I feel the same way about the shutters on the window...they pretty much go with everything.

See the shelf over the bed?  My husband I and made that a few weekends ago.  I think it turned out pretty good and we didn't have to buy anything to make it.  My husband is a building and remodeling contractor and we always have a little of this and a little of that laying around so we found a few pieces of wood and just layered them one over the top of the other.  I painted the shelf, distressed it a little and then waxed it.  It sure is heavy though...hopefully it doesn't fall off the wall on to our heads ;)

And there you go...my bedroom.  Not quite as big, cozy or lovely as some of those I've seen out there on some other wonderful blogs, but...it's all mine.

I'm linking my post up to few sites this week...Common Ground for Vintage Inspiration Friday, French Country Cottage for Feathered Nest Friday and My Romantic Home for Show and Tell Friday.

Best wishes for a wonderful weekend :)

Fall Front Porch

Hello all!  It was so nice out today that I went and got a few things for my front porch.  Just trying to bring in the change of season and make it look a little more fall like...nothing fancy just a little of this and a little of that.

I know pink isn't very fallish or Halloweeny but, I'm trying to be careful about how much money I spend.

I figured that since my geraniums still look so pretty I would just add to what I already had cookin'.  So...I got a mum and a few little pumpkins.  I have yet to go and get my big white pumpkins, but that's next on my list.

Hope you enjoyed my fall photos.  I've linked my post up with Common Ground for Vintage Inspiration Friday's Fall Porch Party and with French Country Cottage for Feathered Nest Friday.

Best wishes for a wonderful day :)

Pitchers for White Wednesday

I'm not much of a collector since I really don't like clutter, but I do have a few white pitchers around.  I love them for their pretty white patina and simple charm...and if it's discolored and has a lot of crazing I love it even more.

I'm not sure if these are all ironstone, I'm thinking that a few may be stoneware...I don't know.  This style is my favorite...it seems a little more European and rustic to me and the one with all the dark crazing makes my heart go all a pitter-patter.

I am linking my post to White Wednesday at Faded Charm.  Thanks for stopping by :)

My Weekend Painting

Hello everyone, hope you had a good weekend.  Mine wasn't too eventful.  The weather was nice, although a bit cool....my son had a friend sleep over, so that always means that a little chaos will ensue especially when my three-year-old decides she wants to be part of the mix...for some reason nine-year-old boys aren't happy about that, and I also did a few house-related things these past few days, one of which was painting a picture.

I'm not really much of a painter, I mostly prefer to draw, but I've had this canvas since before last Christmas when I had big plans for a holiday-themed painting.  That obviously never happened, so I figured it was time to do something with it.  I really enjoy drawing patterns in my sketchbook...it is kind of like doodling and decided to try one as a painting.  I was a little nervous though since I did it all freehand and paint isn't exactly erasable.

I had thought that since the colors were neutral it could go in a variety of locations, but that didn't seem to be the case.  So, I guess the mantle is its home.  Now, I'm thinking again about the holidays and how a red and white painting would be pretty...maybe some poinsettias or a dove.  Hmm...I probably shouldn't wait to long to start.

Best wishes for a wonderful week :)
