Goodbye, my sweet little love...


As I write this, my thoughts are flooded with memories and my eyes with tears.  Yesterday, the spirit of my sweet little kitty, Tucker, was set free.  He graced my life for fifteen years and I can't imagine a day without him.  It's so hard for me to grasp that all of the special moments that we were meant to share that have come to a close.


I held his little body and whispered my goodbyes as he nuzzled his soft wispy face against mine.  I stroked my fingers over his little nose as he purred softly, and then...he was gone.  I am in a fog of sadness, my heart heavy with grief over the loss of the little creature that I'm certain God made especially for me.  I'll will forever treasure the time we had together.  Goodbye, my sweet boy, until we meet again, I send you my tearful hugs and kisses...and my love.

  15. He was such a special kitty. I can barely write this myself...as I'm crying with you. It's hard to even look at his little face and those green eyes and then read your sweet words about him. You know I feel your pain for losing your perfect friend. They certainly are the best example of how to be a true friend. He loved you just as much as you loved him...it was a match made in Heaven. xoxo

  33. Oh I so know how you feel...I went through the same thing with my wonderful cat Mozart three days before last Christmas. I still come home and imagine him waiting for me at the backdoor. He was my constant and beautiful friend.

    Letting them go is the hardest act of love that we can give them.

  35. My heart is breaking for you.
    I have two cats and two dogs and cannot imagine losing one of them.
    I had to put a cat to sleep about ten years ago and it still breaks my heart.

    May you find peace in your sweet memories. I know he is in heaven... God would want it that way.... all His creatures great and small.

  39. He is so beautiful. I am so sad for you and my heart knows your emptiness. When our sweet guinea pig passed away two years ago I think I cried for a month. I still miss 'Ruby'. She lived a long life though...7 yrs. You will always miss him. Allow yourself to grieve, let the tears flow, it is healing for your soul. love to you my friend.

    My husband and I have had our little Tabby "Topsy" for 17 years and are now faced with having to put her down. We are both having a really hard time with the idea, and are putting it off as long as we can. Her kidneys are failing her and she has arthritis...

  57. Awww I am so sorry you lost your little friend. Fifteen years is a long time to have your beautiful Tucker. I lost my kitty a couple years ago as he was 16 years. I know how sad it feels and I cried for six days and six nights straight it seemed. Losing a close pet is just like losing a dear family member. I will say some prayers. What a beautiful tribute you wrote. May you have some peace tonite.

  59. Dear Tricia I'm SO sorry for the loss of Tucker, he is lovely and your photos of him really capture his essence.

    I too lost my oldest Cat, Rat Boy, a few months ago, she was 20 so she had a good run, but it sure seems strange without her around the house. I see that Tucker was a mature fur baby too... when they have been part of the Family for so many years it is very difficult to say good-bye, a big Hug for you my Friend.

    I found your blog when I visited Wayside Treasures. I couldn't help but notice your beautiful cat that caught my eye. I too am so sorry for your huge loss of your special friend and I also share your heartache because my family and I had to put down our beloved cat Buster, (10) and our other golden retreiver Tino, (12) just recently. They both died within two weeks of one another. It's been extremely painful and so I completely understand what a huge hole has left within your home and heart. May God bless you, I'm sure that Tucker was one of a kind!

I wish I could help ease the sadness & empty feeling that is permeating through you now over the loss of your sweet Tucker. 15 years was a good, long life... and yes, God placed him with you for a caretaker & companion. Hugs... I know how hard this is. I had a cat that lived for 20 years (from my childhood to adulthood) & putting him to rest in peace was one of the hardest things I had to do when he fell ill.   77. Tricia, I too am so sorry for your loss. A few years ago, we lost our orange tabby cat, Tate, to cancer after almost 18 years. It was unbelievably difficult to let him go. Pets are undeniably gentle souls that I think are destined to be a part of our lives. Like you with your Tucker, we have wonderful memories of our years with Tate. And, we have two new kitties who have followed after him, Lily and Thomas. I feel your loss. Only time will heal the hurt. Blessings. :)

  95. I am very sorry for your loss. Three weeks ago, I was in PA having the time of my life (so I thought) and I got a call from home, my mum started to cry.. and I knew it had to be one of my pets, turns out, it was my sweet kitty.. it's the hardest thing to have to let go of an amazing animal. Being back home, isn't the same with my kitty not welcoming me at the door, or waking me in the morning with her meows.. but I know she's in kitty heaven with Tucker :)

But I turn around and she's not there. I feel for you. He was a cutie...and a 15 yr relationship.....wow! You will have to remember all the good times.

  101. Wow, do I understand the loss. It's all consuming and numbs you to your soul. When I had to let my sweet boy, Hairy, go several years ago (he was 17) it was the worst loss I'd ever suffered. No one can prepare you for what you will feel or how long you will feel it. Even my husband said he didn't think I'd be that upset if he were gone! It took me a full year before I finally felt better.

    We have since adopted 2 other cats but their personalities haven't even been close to that of Hairy's. They won't even let me hold them. I hope your new babies, Milo and Maisy, eventually bring a bit of joy and healing to your heart, Tricia.

    Why I came upon this post I'm not sure. But here I read and feel your sadness. I see you have Milo and Maisy now, and hope they are wonderful kittens.
    I've had my share of goodbyes lately. We have 7 dogs & 2 cats. Most are adopted and getting old.
    We have a little pet cemetery in our garden under the tree. We remember the ones that left us every day.
