As I look out the window, a crisp breeze is blowing brightly-colored leaves this way and that, plucking them from the trees and sending them whirling to the ground. Warm and sunny yesterday, today's weather feels a bit shocking and tells me that fall is here to stay.
For whatever reason, I'm never one to decorate much for this season. Perhaps it's because it always feels so short-lived, a brief interlude at summer's end, one that signals the impending arrival of winter...something I never look forward to. In any event, I do try to bring a little bit of autumn indoors and beyond a mum and few pumpkins, let mother nature do the prettying up outside.
As you may have gathered, flowers and fruit are often my go to items for decorating. Since I like things pretty simple, it wasn't any different this time around.
I bought a bouquet of alstromeria for the dining room and set it on one of my newest finds, a little vintage wooden tray, that I piled high with apples and pears. I like that the whole thing coordinates somewhat with the hydrangeas that fill the dough bowl and feels a little autumnish, but in a whispering sort of way...you know?
Good heavens, I have to tell you, I'm lucky to even have any hydrangeas in that bowl. Guess what happened?
Someone got the bright idea to try and get up on the top of that shelf and give those hydrangeas a closer inspection. Oh, I mean a cat, of course, not one of my kids. I could, however, see my daughter trying to do that too, but anyway...I heard a big crashing noise and came in to find flowers lying all over the floor. Yes, I had a crabby face when I made that discovery...especially since my son was laughing like it was the funniest thing ever. Ummm...no.
Anyway, I'm glad the flowers survived somewhat and are able to live happily in that bowl...I'm always at a bit of loss for what to put in that thing.
Well, that's a little peek into my world lately. Hope everything is wonderful where you are.

ReplyDeleteI don't do any decorating for fall anymore, but wow, when all the children were little they never let me get away with not putting out all kinds of tacky stuff : ) I couldn't wait until the season changed just to be able to put it away. LOL! (really in truth, I kind of miss it :)
hugs...
simply lovely, I could be sitting on the counter eating one of those pears!...I feel the same about autumn and not making much of a decorative statement,(pumpkins of course!), winter comes soon enough...I just enjoy autumn without the interior fuss:-)

ReplyDeleteHappy fall,and enjoy!
Hugs,
Nely!
Gorgeous pictures and as always I'm so envy about that light:) It is getting dark here (Finland) and it is raining all the time so have to really think how I'm going to take pictures throughout half year darkness.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
Very beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteYour fall decor is GORGEOUS! So light and full of life. Your dilemma with the hydrangeas is exactly why I can't decorate with flowers in my house. So... a few years ago Hubby and I decided it would be fun to use decorative scented candles as a subtle autumn decoration. A couple are in autumnal candle holders but the rest are in clear glass. For me, autumn is about the smells and the candle tradition fits perfectly with that. Now we look forward to when the autumn candles come out.
ReplyDeleteLove your beautiful space and your photography is as gorgeous as always. You always inspire us so much!

I just switched the slip
ReplyDeleteon our couch today and
brought out some cozier
pillows...I don't do a lot
of fall decorating, as I
don't like to store stuff.
AND Christmas IS just
around the corner : )
Sure feels like it today ~
Happy Weekend,
xo Suzanne
So pretty, and your photos are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteStunning. Wonderful pictures. I love your dining room!
ReplyDeleteSuch gorgeous photos of fruit and flowers, and the soft colors are so appealing and soothing. I especially love the old tray with apples and pears.
ReplyDeleteAhhh....*sigh!* That's always what I feel when I visit you, Tricia. Your photos are like a long, serene, sigh. :) I had to turn the heat on here yesterday and bring out the cozy throws for the sofas. I'm not a big autumn decor kinda gal, either. I'm having a hard time even thinking about not buying any roses for my tables. Sooooo...until the snow flies, I'm just going to hang on to a summer-time look here. lol!
