On one of those seemingly rare days when I see a golden sphere in the sky that I vaguely remember as being the sun, I try to do two things...bask for a few moments in its warm rays and then take advantage of all the wonderful light and find something to photograph. A few weeks back, when we were blessed with one of those beautiful days, I managed to snap a few shots of not only the dining room, but the living room too.
Sticking to my love of a simple and natural decorating scheme, I mostly just freshened up the room with some pretty pink hydrangeas and a few little accessories. I'm figuring out that my favorite style is a nice, light look with lots of texture and a bright pop of color.
Don't you just love hydrangeas?! They make me think of summer. This variety is called Firelight. I've seen conflicting information about the zone hardiness, so I'm not sure if they would survive in our climate. I figure when things warm up outside, I'll plant them and hope for the best, but otherwise I've sure enjoyed looking at those big pink flowers here in the house.
Oh, remember when I talked about painting my armoire? Well, one of the things I was so excited to do when I finished that project was to organize the inside...crazy, I know!
Anyway, even though it doesn't happen too often around here, I totally subscribe to the idea of a place for everything and everything in its place. So I got rid of a few things, bought some baskets and boxes for the rest and managed to cram all my art and crafty stuff into the armoire. See?!
Those fabric covered boxes weren't quite the look I was going for, but after driving here, there and everywhere I figured that they were good enough and just rolled with it. It feels nice to open the doors and actually be able to find what I'm looking for. Yay!!
My current project has been my daughter's little fort under the stairs...or the Cottage, as she's been calling it. It's such a dark space, but if I can get some okay photos, I'll show you when I'm all finished dolling it up.
Well, lovely people, that's all for today...hope you have a good weekend and that you see the sun!

ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous room! I really love the huge windows and the white furniture and pink hydrangeas are fabulous together!
ReplyDeleteyour room is so serene and beautiful. I love how you organized the inside of your armoire. I'd want to keep it open all the time!
ReplyDeleteTricia, your home and your photography could and should fill the pages of a magazine. BEAUTIFUL and beyond.
ReplyDeleteYour living room is gorgeous. I love the armoire. I wish the inside of mine looked that beautiful, mine would make your eyes bleed! LOL
ReplyDeleteSo elegant! I'm surprised you found hydrangeas already. I do love them, and these pinks are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteOnce again, you have managed to inspire and delight us at the same time..sending you some sunshine so that you will have great light to show us the "cottage" under the stairs!
ReplyDeleteLove the paint job..turned out beautiful. I would love to have everything in it's place. Not likely around here. However, I just ordered a ton of plastic to organize my pantry cabinet. Wish me luck, with hungry teenage boys it might be rough. Photos are lovely as always. Keep warm.

It just happens to be sunny out right now and I'm loving it. I keep telling the kids two weeks and it will be spring! I'm crossing my fingers and hoping it's true! Your photos are gorgeous as always and your living room looks so cozy. I too love a light bright space with a pop of color.
ReplyDeleteYour living room is lovely...I can imagine sitting in that comfy chair with my feet up, reading a good book! Your armoire is beautiful! I like how organized you are. I have been seeing those floral boxes, too, and was going to get a few for my daughter. She might get the hint to clean her room!

The pops of color really do brighten up the room in a big way. Love your style! Though with three dogs, I don't think I could keep all that white clean!

ReplyDeleteLovely room with the white and light and touches of pink. I hope your hydrangeas survive your climate. My hydrangea bushes are among my very favourite summer flowers. They are just getting green leaves these days.

The inside of your armoire looks wonderful! So pretty and organized!
Oh, your photos always take my breath away, Tricia. Everything looks lovely, so textural and bright. Nice job on the armoire. I am sure you have inspired many to paint theirs. Including me.
ReplyDeleteCiao Tricia. The inside of your armoire looks wonderful! Lovely softness and clean look. :)
ReplyDeleteI could certainly spend a few hours in that comfy corner of your living room! I've got a 1980's armoire just begging for a coat of paint and hope it turns out half as pretty as yours. Your flower photos should be on the cover of a spring magazine. truly lovely
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the feature at Common Ground!
I love your simple natural look with a pop of color. Also enjoyed browsing through your dining room photos...must have missed it last week. Thanks for sharing your wonderful home and photography with us:-)

ReplyDeleteSimply a dream room!...
ReplyDeletegorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping so to see the sun too today! My hubby bought me a Canon Rebel camera for Christmas and I'm trying to learn how to use it. I remember you Tricia having some blog posts about the how to of taking photos didn't you?
ReplyDeleteI love your armoire!...and the blackboard message inside when you open it! Your style is so soft and beautiful. Makes me want to start getting rid of some things for that more simplistic and less is more style.
I've been out of blog land for about 3 months due to some surgery. I hope you will come back by my blog Tricia because I finally put up a new post.
Sunshine love to you,
Lee Ann
lovely ideas!
ReplyDeleteV.
Even though the storage boxes weren't exactly what you were looking for I think it's cool that they ended up being the perfect accent to the deep pink hydrangeas in these photos. Such a happy accident!
ReplyDeleteWell, aren't you Miss Organized! Your living room looks so cozy. I could curl up and take a nap in that chair by the window. Can't wait to see the "cottage".
ReplyDeleteThis is so pretty, Tricia! I could just curl up in that chair with a good book and a cup of coffee...bliss! Your organizing turned out wonderfully! I know we have more snow on the way, but I saw a robin today...there's hope of spring!
ReplyDeletelove. I wonder how long I could keep the inside of the armoire looking so neat and pretty? Can't wait to see the "cottage" - I loved nooks like that when I was a child...actually I still do! I hope spring come to you soon.
ReplyDeleteHi!! Really admire the natural look of your house and how you make use of natural lighting..so effortlessly elegant. I love Hydrangeas. I nearly bought some today but I hold off as I already have a purple lace cap in front of the house. Knowing me I probably would come back and buy the white ones anyway but see how far I could resist.
ReplyDelete:-)
Once again you have me ooohing and aaaahing over your photos. Your house is beautiful I just love the little punch of color. I am looking forward to seeing the cottage..
