May Flowers

Hi everyone! Well, here it is May already. Can you believe it? After our long winter, I've been eagerly awaiting this time of year and the warmer weather and sunny skies that it brings.

For what seems like months now, there's been thoughts dancing around in my head about how wonderful it will be to get outdoors...wondering what flowers I should plant...if I should make a little garden. I try to block any notion of pulling weeds, painting the fence or of voles that have completely ruined my yard. Sadly though, I haven't gotten much of anything done, since nice days have been few and far between.

I'm thinking that instead of saying "April showers bring May flowers," the more appropriate phrase around here would be "April snow brings May flowers." Let's hope anyway, since there's not a whole lot of bloomin' going on in these parts.

A few weeks back the florist called to tell me that they had finally received one of my flower favorites...ranunculus. I needed a little slice of spring so I rushed right over. I can't wait for my yard to start sprouting some others that I love like lilacs, peonies and hydrangeas. Do you have a favorite flower that you plant every year or one that you can't wait for it to bloom?

As I was snapping away, I remembered that I had this pretty round box...it's covered in vintage wallpaper. Isn't it a cute little prop? I wish I didn't love little odds and ends like this so much, I never know what to do with them other than use them for photos. I tell myself that that's a good enough reason to have them around.

Well, that's all for today...just a few flower photos.
Thanks for visiting. Hope you have a happy weekend!

  4. Well Spring sure has played some tricks on all of us it seems. I can't believe snow! I've been watching the weather channel with my mouth dropped open. Mother Nature is very confused this year. Keep your chin up!

We have moles/voles in our yard too and with the dog trying to find them in the back yard, it's just a mess too. Thankfully he has never dug one up, although when we aren't looking, he tries again. We applied Milky Spore last fall to the entire front yard and it seems great! I'm not sure why we overlooked the back yard.

    Gorgeous photos!

  21. I love ranunculus! They remind me of layers of tissue paper. I tried to grow them once and it didn't work out...it was very sweet of your florist to call you! They made for some very pretty photos. I love trinket boxes, too. My dresser is covered in them and I suspect they are all filled with half of an earring set!

Hang in there...summer has to be near! Just keep bringing the flowers in!

    XO,
    Jane

  40. Of the Ranunculus cymbalaria species (singular), I also like charming seaside buttecups blooming especially in yellow, orange or red. It can be found almost in all suitable places within the range of Rs. Not so smart one to be fond of is the shore buttercup species found in a similar habitat that is often of perennial wildflower seeds. I nearly had come to stop when touched it once.

  44. It's so nice to finally have so nice weather isn't it. I realized a couple days ago that it's almost time to start planting since I normally do so around May 14th. This year I'm just not sure what to do. But I'm looking forward to getting started. Are you sure fences have to be painting? LOL.

Your photos are gorgeous as always. I'm looking forward to seeing my peniones bloom and also hydrandea. It seems I can never get enough of eithe.

  57. Peonies are among my Favs and finally some are coming into the Flower Shops and Specialty Grocery Stores so I plan to rush right out and get some! Unlike you with the extended Cold spell, we are now experiencing the other Weather extreme here in the AZ Desert... where our temps are already in the triple digits... and so less time is spend Gardening since our Spring is very brief.
