Lazy Days


Hello, hello!

I'm back...a little later than expected. Oops. I feel like I've had so much going on lately. After the routine of the school year, I often look forward to the lazy days of summer, but so far they seemed to have escaped me.


My thoughts have been focused on traveling and all that goes with that. These photos are a few that I took while vacationing last summer. As for this year, I have an upcoming getaway planned to Charleston, South Carolina. I'm so excited...it's a place I've wanted to visit for so long!


I'd wholeheartedly welcome any thoughts on things to do...places to see. I'm looking forward to visiting the historic downtown...doing a little shopping...seeing the sites, but I don't really know anything specific, so throw me some ideas, okay?

Oh, totally separate subject, but I wanted to mention why I haven't been blogging or visiting as much over the past six months...just in case anyone wonders. Anyway, I've been having a terrible problem with migraines, nausea and...vomiting. Yeah, that last part is probably a little too much information, huh? Anyway, it's so much worse if I go on the computer. Thankfully though, I finally have some medication that helps my symptoms, so I hope to be around more frequently. Thanks so much for your visits :)

  1. Oh Tricia that's terrible!! I do hope you are feeling better with the medicine!!! I had a bit of a problem myself with the "dizzy head" thing, as I called it, 2 years ago...cleaned up my diet {including no caffeine at all!} and it did help quite a bit, but the computer always bothered me too. So I know a little bit of how you are feeling...hope you are on the mend and will be able to thoroughly enjoy your upcoming vacation!!! Can't wait to see your photos!!

  4. I am exiting to read your post, because this summer we will visiting Charleston too! We have never been in the USA, so I hope it will be a very special trip. We will stay in Charleston for only one day, perhaps too short but there are so many places to see! We will start our holidays in New York, for a stay of five days, then we will go in two and a half week to Miami Beach. When you have good ideas for me, they are welcome too.

    I am glad to hear you feel better now, a long time ago I had the same, due to high blood pressure.

    Migraines are awful, and they seem to invade every aspect of your life.
    I am glad that you found some medicine that is working for you.

    sure value great health when
    faced with nausea!!!

    I love Charleston. Be sure to
    see as many of the historical
    properties open for tours as
    you can. There are also plantations
    nearby that you can tour, which
    you will really enjoy. And so
    many wonderful restaurants!!!

    It will be hot hot hot, though,
    so bring a water bottle and an
    umbrella for that intense sun.
    Maybe even one of those personal
    fan/water spray things. I am
    not kidding, it makes our hot
    and humid MN summers feel
    almost cool!

  8. Oh Tricia, I truly feel for you!! I suffer from headaches almost daily and I have had migraines with n/v and it is miserable! Have you had an MRI of your head? I'm sure you have. Sorry, but my nursing instincts are kicking in. :)

  9. I love Charleston. So gracious. It's been a few years since we were there. Middleton Place (a plantation) is good to visit, and the Edmonston-Alston House. I find the tour guides very informative. We also enjoyed eating at Carolina's and walking along the boardwalk in the evening.

    I know a little of what you are going through. I used to have cluster headaches and it was miserable. i will pray that the medication is just what you need to end these painful episodes.

    So sorry to hear you were not feeling well ... I have never had migraines (knock on wood) but have suffered with severe sinus headaches. No comparison, I'm sure.

  14. Sorry that you're suffering from migraines. I love the Charleston area...I last went in July a couple of years ago. The heat was unbearable...100; the humidity could be cut with a knife (my camera was full on condensation). Stay hydrated and enjoy!

  17. Glad you're feeling better. I hear migraines can be nasty to deal with. I spent a week in Charleston on business a few years ago and loved it. I could have easily been talked into moving down there. There's a market close to downtown (or maybe in downtown?) that was fun and colorful. I didn't get to go to any of the plantations, because the darn work thing got in the way (can't believe they expected me to actually work on a business trip), but I hear they are something you have to see. Enjoy your trip and take lots of photos (like I have to tell you that).

  20. Oh so happy you have found medication to help your headaches and nausea...must have been awful. Charleston...ahhh one of my most favorite places to visit. You will LOVE it..all of it's charm and beauty. I was there for a week and everyday we walked the streets, gazing at the beautiful homes and gardens. We did take in a couple of plantations that were quite enjoyable. Great trip!!!

  22. Sorry that you've been so uncomfortable and inconvenienced! I'm a believer in alternative approaches, so I encourage you to explore options like acupuncture, chiropractics, homeopathy, and dietary changes until you find relief. Your body is telling you something. I'm glad the medicine is helping, but it would be nice to determine the cause of your symptoms and a solution.

    One thing's for sure -- you will absolutely love Charleston! A photographer like you will take thousands of pictures. You can't go wrong scheduling your days. The carriage ride is a good way to start. So is the (air conditioned) visitors center. I like to get oriented to any city we visit with a AAA Tourbook. Of course there's plenty of info online, but I'm guessing you're limiting your computer time.

    It will be very hot and humid. Follow the advice of everyone here about staying cool and hydrated. Air conditioning is your friend. I can't wait to see your photos! Have fun and feel better.

  25. i've never been to south carolina, but would love to visit, it looks so pretty. hope you have a wonderful trip there this summer! i am a migraine sufferer too. they are absolutely debilitating. i finally found the best meds - Treximet (by prescrip and expensive, but worth every penny!). Glad you found some meds that are helping...if they cease to work or you want to try something different, ask your doctor about Treximet...it gets rid of my migraines within 15-20 min. completely!

  35. I'm so sorry to hear about the headaches Tricia. The last two years have been bad for migraines for me too until I finally got a prescription from my doctor too. I hope yours does the trick too.

  36. Hi Tricia, I suffered something similar years ago...my friend, colleagues and clients all wondered if I was terminally ill, I looked so awful. I woke up every morning wanting to throw up if I moved my head. Turned out to be such a simple fix...I stopped drinking diet soda. Took about 2 weeks and I have barely had a headache since. Just a thought just in case you drink it too. I only had one day so it wasn't like I drank it all day. I wish you well and love your blog!

  37. Hi Tricia, do you drink diet soda? The aspartame in that can lead to those exact symptoms.. I had vomiting, migraines every day...took about two weeks of not drinking my one diet soda a day and no more migraines! Just a thought in case it might help you. Love your blog! Wish you well!

  38. What great photos. Our daughter was just telling me the other day that most migraines are caused from a build up of mucus around the sinuses.She said that she read that one of the best ways to break up the mucus is to mix a tablespoon of raw apple cider vinegar, a tablespoon of raw honey in a cup of water and drink it each day. She said that the article said that most of the time that migraines would not return. The key is the vinegar and honey both need to be raw. She tried it and it sure worked for her.

    1. thank you! I think your tips might help me too. I am also a migrane sufferer and I have so much mucus around my sinuses that it's hard to breath. I've been also taking vitamins recommended by my Neurologist; COQ10 300 mg, B2 riboflavin 200 mg, and magnesium up to 500mg. It has really helped a lot! I'm going to find raw honey and vinegar.

  40. Like Bonnie above, my mom suffered from migraines for years and they went away once she went gluten-free. It might be worth trying. In any case, good luck. I hope the meds continue to work. ♥

  42. Hi Tricia, I'm excited for your trip to Charleston. I think you will love it! I was there to photograph gardens and there are so many lovely ones. Just walk up and down the residential streets in the historic district and you'll see fabulous homes each with a wonderful garden. The architecture is fascinating.

    I'm so sorry to hear about the migraines and so hope you are getting relief now. I suffered with them for many years so I can fully sympathize. Thank you for checking in here and letting us know.

  43. Hi! I just found your blog and I can't wait to look at it more. I've also been suffering from migranes, nausea and extreme dizziness for 5 yrs. now. What has helped me is my Neurologist prescribed vitamins. I take B2 200mg 2 times a day, magnesium 500mg daily and CoQ10 300mg daily. He first prescribed a preventive medicane, but since I'm not a big medicane person, I asked him about vitamins. He said, "sure you can do that." It does take a few months for you to really see a difference and it doesn't work so much during your menstrual cycle, but I starting feeling better sooner. My primary Dr. also suggested I eat a very clean diet, avoid packaged and processed foods, drink plenty of water, exercise and avoid stress. The stress part was a little tough for me,(especially when you don't know where to put your head because it hurts so much.) I felt so disoriented. Some people will get an Aura for a few days before the migrane; like dizziness, nausea, vomiting and visual disturbances. I was also having a lot of heart palpitations and high blood pressure this past winter. I was so exhausted and scared, but I have two children and have to take good care of them, so I had to find out how to feel better.

    I still get them sometimes, but not near as bad. I just hope you will feel better soon. I hate it when people don't feel good. Take care of yourself :) Take deep breaths and try your best to think only on good things and push away the worries. VitaminD from the sun is good. Just being outside doing what ever you love is the best medicane! And rest!!! I think going on your trip to S.C. will be so great for you. Have fun! You're in my prayers!

    I have neuro problems so keep my diet very clean. All organic heavy on greens, no meat, nothing packaged...foods are so full of terribly unhealthy additives today. For the first time in years I ate off this 'clean' nutrient rich regiment and was immediately sick. Dr. Mercolas site often seems to have an answer for everything.

    Thanks for your lovely comment and yes...we visited Charleston last Saturday. It was really great, I have made so many pictures of all the wonderful houses. Now we are in Orlando, yesterday we visited Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. My daughters (18 and 15 years old) were very exited...they like all the roller coasters so much ;-). Thursday we will drive to Miami, the last part of our trip. It's really great to be in the USA, the people are very friendly and it 's very special to be here in your country, to visit New York, Washington and so many other places.

    Did you also made many pictures of Charleston and will you post them on your blog? It would be great for my memories! When I am back in Holland, I think I will make a lot of posts of our holiday in the USA...also of Charleston ;-).

  49. Just now reading this, not sure you will even get this note but I will chance it. For about 10 years in my mid 20s to mid 30s I also suffered from "sick migraines." Oh, there is nothing like them. OMG.

    But a few things helped - got on high bleed pressure meds, started drinking a LOT of water, avoided red wines, got a mouth guard (TMJ and teeth grinding) and to this day still get a monthly massage. I also started going to the chiropractor.

    A lot of it seemed to stem around mensus from high hormone surges - but they finally did go away. Kinda when the surges did, too.

    But I truly recommend lots of water - dehydration is sneaky and does bring on headaches - of course a migraine is NOT a headache, but it helps.

    I still get them but haven't had a "sick" one in quite a few years....hope yours pass too. One thing I always hated was the medical field just wanted to make me into a drugged up zombie - that is no life at all. My Mom and older sister got them too, so it is something with our bloodline that brings it on the ladies.

    I sure don't miss them and will send up some prayers for you!

  50. Hi Tricia, so sorry to hear about your health and hope that you find out what is causing it. I often have vertigo and understand the computer thing all too well. Sometime my allergies make it worse. I sure hope you start to have improvement soon.
